Ealing Council’s Leaflet on Fly-Tipping
Has anyone else had this leaflet yet? The messaging is weak and doesn’t have a deterrent effect. It isn’t necessary to state the maximum £1000 fine as this may encourage residents to feel that they could be fined less than a trip to Greenford Recycling Centre. The header’s meaning isn’t clear and the photo is ambiguous. Are the council operatives collecting waste permitted to be left on the pavement or is this fly-tipping? What is the council referring to as our home? Pavements? Parks? Libraries? This isn’t helpful for readers, for example those with autism who will have a literal understanding of home. The definition of fly-tipping is limited. If you are local to Southall you will also know about bags of household waste, left on pavements not necessarily near street furniture. Digital poverty is a reality in Southall and there is no phone number to call and report fly-tipping and fly-tippers. This leaflet and the envelope will be making its way into my bin.
